These photos show horseboating as part of the 2008 Heritage Day on the Cromford Canal.
The horse, Billy Jim, with his owners Graham and Lorraine Turner, come annually for this event. The boat, Duchess, is towed from Cromford Wharf to Leawood Pump House, a distance of about one and a half miles. Several return trips are made during the day as a demonstration of horseboating (carrying no passengers). Billy Jim is more accustomed to other types of harness work and being 17.1 hands high he only just fits under the one bridge on the route.
